studio
my studio is my happy place where it all happens (mostly) and where I can immerse myself in another world. I rent an enclosed space from 1853 Studios which is in an old Victorian Mill in Oldham overlooking Manchester and the views are stunning. Unlike most painter's studios oriented to northern light I need intense sun light and so mine faces south west.
I've split the space into 3 "rooms" separated by transparent tarpaulins floor to ceiling. The first room is my creative space where I surround myself with a collection of found objects, maquettes and a mood board of images of ideas and inspirational works. The second room is where I keep my collection of stone, tools and other materials. And the 3rd room is the making room where I create. The 3 rooms help me manage dust effectively, one of the key challenges for a stone sculptor in a confined space.
