Taking inspiration from worn seashells and orchid blooms this piece aligns form with material in a glowing, pirouetting helical form. The varied textures and colours of the orange onyx are enhanced by the movement of the piece.

The onyx was the most challenging stone I've worked so far, with textures ranging from soft white powdery veins to fibrous glass like sections to very hard deep orange crystals. Feeling the response of the material to the hammer and chisel was intense with a constant fear of a fibrous section falling off.
