The subject and form was suggested by the shape and colour of the original stone. The polished surface and the use of warm candle light help capture the essence of flames in the translucent stone. Throughout the carving process I was constantly thinking of how to capture the way a camp fire makes you feel, how the flames dance and seem to resemble other things.
