Emily I

Emily Young has been a huge inspiration for me and following in her footsteps I looked at the original stone and could to begin to see a face within it. This was my first piece seeking to combine delicate human features with the rough natural stone. You can see how the carving of the face was worked into the stone creating a hair line resembling a cap. It has a resemblance to ancient Greek sculptures of Athena with her helmet pushed back (daughter of Zeus).
